Passive cooling is returned: XFX introduced Radeon RX 460

Despite the fact that AMD and NVIDIA in recent years has been able to significantly improve the efficiency of video cards on the market in recent years not a single model with a passive cooler, which is no problem to cope with modern games. Probably the last such video cards are NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti or even PowerColor Radeon HD 7850 SCS3. However, in fairness it should be noted that almost all modern graphics cards stop the fans in idle mode, thus reducing the noise level.

XFX Radeon RX 460: Features

After NVIDIA announced yesterday the release of the market is the GeForce GTX 1050 (Ti), a partner of its “red” competitor showed XFX Radeon RX 460 with dual slot passive cooler. The XFX company relies on the GPU Polaris 11, produced on 14-nm process technology at GlobalFoundries capacity. The chip has 896 stream processors, 56 texture units and 16 raster operations pipelines, and the address 4 GB of GDDR5 memory connected via 128-bit bus. The frequencies of the graphics card, the GPU, at least, were slightly above the reference. Frequency XFX Radeon RX 460 Turbo mode is 1.220 MHz. Effective memory frequency remained at 7,000 MHz.

XFX did not use additional power connectors, that is, the novelty will be enough 75 watts received from PCI Express slot. The cooler consists of a set of aluminum fins and two heat pipes in the form of letters «U», which pass through the radiator. This cooler has to cope with the cooling of the GPU, as well as memory chips and, of course, the power supply system, but the user will have to take care of sufficient cooling of the PC case. On slovotoy plug outputs are DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort.
