SilentiumPC Grandis 2 XE1436 Test and review: flagship cooler with double sink

SilentiumPC Grandis 2 XE1436 Test and review: flagship cooler with double sink

We are accustomed to the fact that manufacturers equip their flagship cooler double radiator.  SilentiumPC Grandis 2 XE1436 is no exception. In our review we will compare the new cooler with products renowned competitors.

We have already tested the two coolers SilentiumPC Polish company in the past year, namely Fortis 3 HE1425 Malik Customs Edition and Fera 3 HE1224 . Both tower cooler with a single radiator left a positive impression, and HE1425 Malik Customs Edition stayed in our memory with the ability to change the appearance. Now it is the turn to test the top-end model.

SilentiumPC did not reinvent the wheel, as well as by many other manufacturers for its flagship SilentiumPC Grandis 2 XE1436 structure with two radiators. Each tower heatsink got his fans. SilentiumPC Grandis 2 XE1436 has a very decent size 130 x 105 x 159 mm (L x W x H), but the performance should be appropriately high.

In Europe SilentiumPC coolers can be purchased through Amazon, to find them problematic in the Russian retail. Grandis 2 through Amazon will be available soon at a price 47.90 euros. Directly in Poland, the cooler can be bought for 41 euros. As you can see, for a cooler with two tower heatsinks price very nice.

Package is quite extensive. In addition to the installation of accessories for modern AMD and the Intel sockets, as well as an illustrated guide, you get a small wrench, the Y-adapter 4-pin PWM (PWM), a small tube of thermal paste Pactum PT-2 and four fan mounting bracket. Two brackets hold nominally 140 mm fan, so Grandis 2 can be equipped with three fans. If only place in the body was enough.

Each of the two radiators is the size of a thin tower cooler. Add to radiators place for fans of standard thickness, so Grandis 2 takes a lot of space in the building. Moreover, the official depth of 10.5 cm is without external fan. If you set a complete 120-mm fan, then increase the depth to 13 cm.

SilentiumPC decided not to decorate or anodized fins. Any complex shapes is also not used. But Grandis 2 allows the fans between two heat sinks, as well as the outside on both sides.

Fixing the bridge is screwed to the base of the cooler. We enjoyed such a solution because they do not have to suffer with the dangling bridge installation.

The most beautiful part of the design of the cooler Grandis 2 can be called two black radiator cover. They are bolted to the radiator with four small screws in theory they can be replaced. But, unlike Fortis 3 HE1425 Malik Customs Edition, supplied with alternative cover not included. The ends of the heat pipes are closed with black plastic caps.

Sami heatpipes have a beautiful copper color. SilentiumPC chose six heatpipes usual diameter of 6 mm. Each of the six U-shaped heat pipe passes through both the radiator. With the processor contacts the copper base.

Stock cooler is equipped with a 140-mm fan Sigma PRO 140L PWM (500 – 1000 rev / min) and a 120-mm fan Sigma PRO 120 PWM (500 – 1,600 rev / min). 140 mm fan pre-installed between the two radiators. The set includes bracket enabling easy to install fans, including inside the PC housing. Visually, both fans Sigma PRO does not stand out. However, black fans harmonizes well with black covers Grandis 2. It is a pity that the vibration isolation provided by the fans.

The package includes an illustrated manual, which describes the entire assembly process. In principle, any problems should arise. SilentiumPC used for flagship plain black plastic back plate. It is suitable for various CPU socket, it suffices to establish the corresponding holes in the pins, then secure them with plastic lining. The pins then threaded through the holes of the motherboard. On the front side of the motherboard them put on sleeve, and then the pins are screwed mounting brackets. Here are just useful to complete the key. Finally, to the fixing brackets screwed bridge heatsink. As a result, a massive cooler with two radiators is kept firmly enough. Of course, there are on the market and more rigid mounting system with a reliable back plates.

From memory slots it can be clearly seen how far beyond the socket flagship exhibit SilentiumPC. On the test motherboard 120mm fan shut three memory slots. Therefore, the high memory heat spreaders used will not work.

SilentiumPC Grandis 2 XE1436: Test

All measurements are in degrees Celsius.

At comparable rates of 2 Grandis is slightly inferior cooler with a single fan. However, the noise level is quite reasonable to 1,000 r / min, while reducing speed to 600 revolutions / minute it decreased to 31.2 dB (A). 140mm fan working at a maximum speed of 1,000 rev / min. Therefore, in our tests, with a maximum speed, in fact, to build momentum only 120 mm fan. The noise level at maximum speed increases significantly, but if we compare the results with other coolers, Grandis 2 refers to the quietest models at maximum speed. Subjectively, the air flow noise of the two fans on medium-high speed irritated stronger than in the case of coolers with single fan.

The following test scenario, we evaluate the performance of the cooler with the standard fan at 1,000 rev / min and at maximum speed.

SilentiumPC Grandis 2 XE1436 Test and review: flagship cooler with double sink

At 1,000 rev / min 2 Grandis showed performance on par with other models with two tower heatsinks. 140 mm fan in this mode already working at maximum speed. Next, we have increased the speed of only 120 mm fan, which is not significantly affected the temperature of CPU. Competitors with two radiators use fans with a higher top speed, allowing them to bypass SilentiumPC.

To compare “pure” performance coolers without affecting regular fans, we equip all our reference cooler fans. We used a powerful fan Noctua NF-A15 PWM, the distance between the mounting holes is 105 mm, speed – up to 1,200 rev / min. If such fans can set on the radiator was absent, we used a more compact Noctua NF-F12 at a speed of 120 mm to 1,500 rev / min. In the case of coolers, designed for “real” 140-mm fans with hole spacing of 140 mm, we used the NF-A14 PWM.

In the center of the fan NF-A15 PWM able to establish with great difficulty, but in the end we were able to carry out tests with two reference fans NF-A15 PWM.

At 1,000 rev / min, we get a small difference between the reference and regular fans in the ranking position changes slightly. But by reducing the speed difference was more than substantial. At 600 rev / min cooler Grandis 2 benefits from the increased cooling surface, he was able to circumvent some CBO closed loop. Performance was quite close to the eminent coolers with two radiators.

SilentiumPC Grandis 2 XE1436 – the new flagship SilentiumPC with two sinks, it is designed to compete with the Noctua NH-D15 (S), Alpenföhn Olymp and other popular models. Polish producer decided to take advantage of the price, because of the cooler with two heat sinks will have to pay less than 50 euros.

SilentiumPC Grandis 2 XE1436 Test and review: flagship cooler with double sink

Two complete fan Sigma PRO work at very reasonable top speed, so that the targets are unlikely to SilentiumPC cooler on the extreme cooling performance. Rather, we have a compromise between cooling performance and noise level. For this reason, the cooler at maximum speed can not compete with similar models from other manufacturers. But at the same fan speed Grandis 2 shows itself quite well. Stock cooler comes with two fans, one is preset, the second user is secured independently. Cooler Grandis 2 is aimed at users who need a good cooling performance at low-medium speed fans. On level 2 Noise Grandis worked a little louder than usual fans with a heatsink and fan. But at low speeds it still remained pleasantly quiet.

Low price does not lead to a special compromise. Of course, in some places the quality of manufacturing is not as ideal as that of its more expensive competitors. During assembly must be content with a plastic rear panel and fan vibration isolation is not provided. But in the set includes bracket for mounting the third fan. But first make sure that the package is enough space: Grandis cooler 2 can not be called a compact. Even when installing a second full-time fan high memory strip can not use.

But such compatibility constraints typical of other coolers with two radiators, for example, Alpenföhn Olymp or Deepcool of Assassin II of . At Noctua NH-D15S compatibility problems a little less, but there will have to make their compromises – the cooler is equipped with a single fan.

If you need an inexpensive cooler with two tower heatsinks, SilentiumPC Grandis 2 XE1436 will be a very viable alternative to more expensive competitors. Is to buy a cooler in Russia is problematic.
