The Japanese company Sharp has announced its intention to merge with Japan Display for the joint development and production of OLED-displays. Thus, Sharp hopes to compete with the South Korean company – the market leaders.
On the developments in this field Sharp intends to spend more than 200 billion yen (about 1.95 billion dollars). Joint series production companies plan to begin in 2018, but may change due to the fact that Sharp has become more difficult to get new equipment for the production of active investments of South Korean companies in the technology.
According to analysts, now about 97% OLED-display smartphone market the company controls Samsung Display, so it is not known how much good results bring a new coalition.
