Review SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim: when open space is limited

We’ve learned that almost all the variants of cooling water from the AIO-range differ mainly in the number of sections of radiators: one, two or three. Of course, among them some distinguished appearance or expansion options. But today, we tested hit models, analogues of which could not immediately recall.

She, like many others, too, different sizes of the radiator, but this time we will focus on dimensions of sections, rather than their quantity. One of the recent models “the tundra» TD02-E from SilverStone has already been on our testing, we now talk about its variations SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim. “Slim” version aims to close the case, with her and get acquainted.

CONTENTS OF DELIVERY SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim

SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim came to us in the usual carton. On its faces can be clearly seen the name, there is a photo and a list of basic blocks of their characteristics. With informative everything is in order, registration is also interesting.

The scope of delivery includes: set of fixing a tube of thermal paste, user guide, Y-splitter for two fans, an adapter 3-pin to molex and a couple of fans.

The first interesting SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim can be called a complete fan. They themselves from SilverStone and are marked APA1215M12 – it is 120 mm turntable with body thickness of only 15 mm. They support the rotation control on the PWM rotational speed may be in the range from 800 to 2300 rev / min.

VISUAL INSPECTION SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim

If you postpone the label «Super Slim», the heroine of this review refers to the classic representatives AIO-solutions: the radiator, water block, pump and hoses are not removable. Recall that the reference TD02-E has some visual delights in the form of a metal housing block pump and radiator plates on the ends, but SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim the items lost and began to look easier.

The radiator is made of aluminum alloy. Its external dimensions are 273x120x22 millimeters, which is almost completely corresponds to two 120 mm fans. Side increasing the concentration of the fluid is minimal.

As expected, the main criterion is the thickness of the radiator 22 millimeters are found not to have all the solutions.

Note that 22 millimeters – a frame external dimensions. working body thickness is about 15 millimeters. Clearances to the seating order of 3.3-3.6 mm fans. The operating structure of the body laid flat 14 channels with a sufficiently dense arrangement Corrugated. On the one hand, increase the density requirements for the fans, on the other working thickness is not so great.

After installing the complete fan, radiator block thickness is only 37 millimeters or 38.2 Well considering caps bolts.

Note that, in the alleged 37 mm does not take into account emerging from the radiator hoses. About their presence should not be forgotten. Fasten the hoses to the radiator by means of the standard-molded fittings. In this configuration, they do not focus on the analysis of the circuit.

Hose length is 320 millimeters. Hoses themselves quite ordinary, with rubberized outer diameter of 12.6 millimeters. SilverStone indicate the presence of metal rails, which should prevent any excesses.

The housing block pump SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim, though made of plastic, but it looks very interesting: the tower narrowed the manufacturer’s logo. Looking ahead, I will say that on the system installed, it looks very good.

The processing is very good. Tracks can only be experienced tactilely, visually they are absent. No luster, matte surface longer.

When checking the flatness with a straight base surface directly in the plane of the fittings, and there is a small dam at the opposite edges of the plane.

Visual inspection is over. Proceed with the installation.

INSTALLATION SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim

For a description of the installation, we will use the motherboard ASUS Maximus VIII Formula. The process begins with bekpleyta assembly: According to the platform, you need to insert a “bolt-wedges” in the plastic frame. I note the presence of a socket names on bekpleyta guys from SilverStone thinking, well done.

Next bekpleyt applied to the board, on the bolts dress plastic washers. They, like the bolts on bekpleyte, stay thanks to a little tightness at installation – it’s convenient, do not need to hold anything.

Further, the pump block is fixed by means of four spring-loaded bolts which have no apparent limitations in. With this approach to the LGA1151 platform at maximum broach begin to sag mounting frame :). By the way, frame themselves in the case of using the AMD platform are mounted on the pump unit by analogy with the photograph.

SilverStone logo has a small blue LED light. It is quite unobtrusive and can be seen only at the time of the study pomp :).

Then proceed to the tests.

Testing SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim

For testing, we used the test stand with the following configuration.

  • Processor: Intel Core i5 6600K;
  • Video: ASUS ROG Poseidon GTX 980 Ti;
  • Cooling competitor: Noctua NH-D15S;
  • Memory: Corsair VENGEANCE LPX CMK8GX4M2A2666C16 8GB (2X4 GB);
  • Hard drive: Transcend MTS600 TS256GMTS600 (for the system);
  • Power Supply: Corsair RM1000.

During testing, the processor frequency and voltage were recorded manually on a mark 4700MGts at a voltage of 1.456V, all power saving options are disabled. Control options turnovers default fans have also been disabled. I note that the poster processor was scalping procedure, and now holds a couple of drops of molten metal under his cap.

Testing took place in three modes of operation of the fan. As Burn-test performed LinX 0.6.5 software, CPU temperature controlled utility Real Temp TI.

Measurements were noise characteristics with a digital sound level meter, with a distance of about 30cm, the minimum limit of measuring noise is 30dB, the noise level in the room is equal to 31,6-32,1dB given below 32,1-33,1dB can be considered absolutely noiseless, the error may be 1,5-2dB. The results are divided into three blocks, in the fan speed.

The findings and analysis of the results, I will combine. At the time of publication of the material, SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim lit up only in one metropolitan store, and then a very strange price tag. Therefore, we assume that the availability SilverStone AIO-making at the moment we are not very good.

Now to the results. Only one, vysokooborotisty, guinea mode was able to leave a solid vent Noctua NH-D15. In other modes, we observe parity or a small loss at equal speed fans. At the same time noise characteristics SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim again not to come. For noise have a few comments. Chief: at stock speeds in 2760 prm pump very well heard. She begins to be lost when passing the mark of 1,600 prm, in the region of 1000 prm out in silence. Next, the fans in the region of 1000-1200 prm can emit other sounds.

In direct comparison with the selected competitor, the results SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim does not look so interesting. However, if we move in a compact housing with restrictions on the height of the CPU cooler or the seat for the fans, probably good vents or conventional AIO there simply will not fit. But SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim possible and fit :).

Yes, the main feature SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim is dimensions. As at the beginning of the material, I do not remembered similar solutions. When comparing a small vent and SilverStone Tundra TD02-Slim, the second simply will not leave a chance. Air will not be able to keep this level of acceleration. Hopefully, the price tag on the TD02-Slim takes adequate bar, where you can take the existing “noise nuances” and begin to deal with them.
