If 5.5-inch display is not enough for you, then Cube WP10 will be an excellent option. The smartphone has a 7-inch display and Windows 10 Mobile. This screen size allows you to use Cube WP10 as a tablet. Moreover, it has some advantages over all tablets, for example, support for dual SIM cards. It means that by buying Cube WP10 you get 3 devices: two smartphones and a tablet. It’s interesting, is not it?
We received a smartphone Cube WP10 for a review from online store GearBest. At the moment the price is only $109.
So, let’s look at the design, specs and features of Cube WP10.
The smartphone comes in a white box. Here we see Windows 10 and Qualcomm Snapdragon logos. Most of the inscriptions in Chinese, which is quite expected from the Chinese smartphone.
But the packaging of Cube WP10 little upset us. Inside the box are following:
And where is the charger? It is rather modest packaging.
Even though the price of Cube WP10 is only $120, the smartphone looks very good. It has excellent build quality and stylish design. Of course, given its size, it can not be used with one hand.
Moreover, the smartphone looks better than it really is. What do we mean? The back panel looks like it’s made of glass, but it’s not. And the frame seems to be made of aluminum, but in fact it is made of high-quality plastic. If you look at the official press photos, you will not notice the difference.
The thickness of Cube WP10 is only 7.6 mm. It is very small for a device of such a large size.
The front and back panels of smartphone are made in white color. The screen is covered with some kind of protective glass.
The only buttons (power and volume) are located on the right side. The buttons are comfortable, they are pressed very well.
On the left side wee see slot for microSIM and nanoSIM card, or microSIM and microSD memory card.
At the bottom there is a microUSB port and a microphone.
Above the display is a front camera, a speaker and a light sensor.
The upper edge is equipped with a microphone with noise reduction function and a standard headphone jack.
On the rear panel there is main camera, flash and company’s logo.
In general, Cube WP10 design is very attractive and minimalistic. We like that the manufacturer tried to make a smartphone in premium class (pseudo metal frame and glass back panel), despite the low price.
The screen is one of the main features of Cube WP10 (the second feature is Windows 10, which we’ll talk about later).
Screen size is 6.98-inch. The panel uses IPS matrix and supports a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It has high brightness and very good color rendering. However, we notice some distortion of colors at high viewing angles. The contrast is also surprisingly good for the device of such a price class.
We did not like that the screen reflects everything as a mirror. It is especially noticeable on the street, in bright sunlight.
In general, the screen is quite good, and meets its price category.
Here, Cube WP10 is more like a tablet than a smartphone. We have not seen a 5-megapixel main camera on smartphones for a long time, but some tablet cameras still use such resolution.
Of course, it’s quite difficult to use a smartphone with 7-inch screen for taking photos. Perhaps the manufacturer understood this point, so it decided to save money on camera.
We will not go into details, just look at the examples of photos.
The smartphone records video at a maximum resolution of 1280×720 pixels at 30 fps.
Also, Cube WP10 has a 2-megapixel front camera.
We don’t find speaker holes. It seems that Cube WP10 uses receiver above the screen to make a sound. It is loud, but the quality is so-so. We liked the sound in headphones, but not for real music lovers.
The smartphone has a large 7-inch screen, so if you plan to use it as your primary phone, then get ready for great attention from people around you.
As for the quality of phone conversations, it was quite difficult for us to hear the interlocutor in public places. Fortunately, our friend on the other end of wire heard us very well, thanks to noise canceling microphone.
As we said earlier, Cube WP10 supports dual SIM cards – microSIM and nanoSIM. All frequencies of LTE are supported. We don’t have any problems with data transfer, LTE works great, the speed is excellent.
Wi-Fi supports 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz. Again we haven’t any complaints, Wi-Fi works great.
Also Cube WP10 has GPS that works fine, but the digital compass is missing, and it is a significant disadvantage for using navigation.
Cube WP10 works on hopelessly outdated version of operating system, namely Windows 10 Mobile v1511. It was released in November 2015.
Anyway, you can update Cube WP10 to the current version 1607 (Anniversary Update). It is not an official update, so you will need to follow a few tricky steps – change values in registry so Windows Update servers think that you have Lumia 950 XL. Read more here.
Perhaps someday Microsoft will add Cube WP10 in Windows Insider and then users will be able to download Anniversary Update or even the latest update of Creators Update without “tambourine dances”.
We liked that Cube WP 10 comes with pre-installed Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel and others. Also you get an Xbox application for quick access to your account.
According to the official list of specifications, Cube WP10 is equipped with Qualcomm MSM8909 processor. We think that it is Snapdragon 210 or Snapdragon 212. Also smartphone has 2GB of RAM.
In any case, the performance is good: interface works quickly and smoothly, applications are launched almost instantly and do not break. In addition, it is very comfortable to play games on such big display.
The smartphone is powered by 2850 mAh battery. The manufacturer promises a full day of battery life, and in practice we have about the same, depending on activity.
We share life hack with you: remove SIM card, and use Cube WP 10 like a tablet, and it will work for two days.
Cube WP10 is a device that often called “Not for All”. Yes, it’s not perfect, but Cube WP10 is a good option for those who are looking for universal device – phone and tablet. There’s a good screen, support for two SIM cards, and even LTE. But there are some disadvantages: terrible camera and lack of updates to software platform.
