Recently, we have published the news telling about new features Network Controller Killer E2500 from Rivet Networks. MSI has not gone away, and presented the motherboard Z170A Gaming M6 with the controller. It is designed to Skylake-S processors with socket LGA1151. The motherboard is manufactured in a standard ATX format with black textolite. Of the innovations can be noted recently announced Ethernet Controller Killer E2500, as well as a new host-controller USB 3.1 Gen2. Namely ASMedia ASM2142, which came to replace ASM1142.
By the CPU connected two expansion slots PCIe 3.0 x16 with Steel Armor function, there is an additional mechanical slot PCIe 3.0 x16 slots and four PCIe 3.0 x1, but they are already working on the Z170 chipset. Present and four memory slots DDR4 DIMM, too, with Steel Armor function. They allow you to install up to 64 GB of memory. With regard to the storage interfaces, the MSI has added not only two SATA Express and two SATA 6 Gb / s, but also two M.2 port with the key M for high-speed SSD. Not without a diagnostic display.
In addition to the six ports USB 3.1 Gen1 and USB 2.0 on the MSI Z170A Gaming M6 present, and two high-port USB 3.1 Gen2, one Type A and Type C. The network connection is realized by said Killer E2500 chip from Rivet Networks, which supports a maximum speed of up to 1 Gbit / from. audio subsystem is presented MSI Audio Boost 3. To connect the speakers are five 3.5-mm audio jack, there is an optical output Toslink. Built in Skylake processor graphics unit can be output via the DVI-D interfaces and HDMI 1.4a.
The weak point of the previous controller was ASMedia ASM1142 connection. The chip can be connected via two Gen2 line (10 Gbit / s), or one Gen3 (8 Gb / s). This bandwidth is limited by the rate in case of simultaneous loading of two ports. The new controller ASMedia ASM2142 circumvents this drawback because it connects two lines Gen3 theoretical bandwidth up to 16 Gbit / s. It is already enough to load two USB ports simultaneously. MSI calls this Lightning USB function.
MSI made it clear that Z170A Gaming M6 will be the basis for the future of gaming motherboards. In the future, MSI also plans to equip them with the network controller and the Killer E2500 new host-controller USB 3.1 Gen2 ASM2142.
The motherboard MSI Z170A Gaming M6 will soon be available in our test lab.
