The organization HDMI Forum, responsible for the development and implementation of the same name interface for digital audio and video content, has published a new version of the specification of the standard HDMI 2.1. The main innovations are increased to 48 Gbit / s maximum interface bandwidth, as well as technology support and Dynamic HDR Game Mode VRR.
The increase in “channel” will allow you to connect monitors and TVs with even higher resolution and refresh rate. In particular, through the HDMI 2.1 interface can be connected 8K display with a refresh rate of 60 Hz or 4K monitors with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.
Tech Game Mode VRR generally repeats the function of synchronization technology G-Sync / Freesync, and dynamically adjusts the refresh rate of the monitor or TV set in accordance with the frame rate of the game. As representatives of the HDMI Forum, the technology will work with game consoles and a PC. Thanks to Dynamic HDR will be able to provide work of high dynamic range (HDR) on a frame level, which should improve the details of the corresponding video.
As before, the new HDMI standard will have full backward compatibility with previous versions of the interface, and full HDMI 2.1 specification will be available for the HDMI Forum members at the beginning of next quarter.
