Today our guest model Cube i9, which runs on Windows 10 and equipped with a processor Intel Core M skylake generation.
So, what in addition it has to offer?
As an SoC using a fresh Intel Core m3-6Y30, that automatically translates Cube i9 in the category of more serious devices than the same Cube iWork 12. The characteristics of the device resembles a younger modification of Microsoft Surface Pro 4, but is not an example of the latter is cheaper. And of the models examined in the laboratory, it has a similar configuration laptop Xiaomi Notebook Air 12.5.
Let’s start with an review of packaging.
Review Hero comes in a large white box, like the Cube iWork 12.
On the front side – the “tiling” icon, …
… On the back – a few of QR-codes and a different background.
Accessory kit hidden in a separate box. With Cube i9 included are:
The manufacturer put the USB-OTG cable (box Cube iWork 12 he was), making the already not very generous packaging very very poor.
With a complete set of sorted out, move on to the actual appearance during operation.
The plate is made in the bar form factor, this is a typical candy bar with a touchscreen.Aspect ratio – 16:10. Cube i9 does not just look like a Cube iWork 12, in fact, both devices have nearly the same body, the differences are minimal.
Weight and dimensions of the device is 965 g and 303.0 x 195.0 x 10.5 mm, respectively.
Unlike the Cube iWork 12, the test plate is made in dark colors – black frame bezel and a blue back cover.
The display is located under the protective glass of the unknown producer, it “out of the box” is pasted protective film without oleophobic coating.
At the top of the front panel has a front facing camera and LED.
On the right side is for the traditional windows-tablet touch button “Start”.
The LED is very small and dim, in a lighted room and see it almost impossible – in the photo above the LED works, and we even identified the oval area in which it is, but, apparently, it helped little.
The upper part of the rear side plate installed pyatimegapikselnaya chamber.
At the bottom, as in Cube iWork 12 is snaps rack.
And in the first and the second position is fixed, it is stable, the tablet does not falter.
At the top end Cube i9 installed power / lock button, single volume button and microphone.
At the bottom there is a special magnetic connector for the original keyboard. Connector is similar to that of the Cube iWork 12, respectively, from the keyboard it works fine with Cube i9.
One of the external speaker is located on the right side wall.
On the left side is located one of the external speakers, as well as all connectors tablet: full USB 3.0, MicroSD card slot, power jack, USB Type-C, 3.5 mm jack.
Cube i9 To build quality no complaints – nothing is loose, and the key holder is not stagger, and the whole tablet leaves the impression firmly assembled, monolithic devices.
Of course, the design of the premium can not speak – the device looks clumsy, which, however, there is significant justification, namely -. Among lowest price with similar “hardware” devices
Cube i9 is equipped with a 12.2 “touch IPS matrix screen resolution – 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA), the value of point density (ppi) of 186 dpi – low figure for tablets, but a normal laptop: nevertheless review the hero is closer to the last class of devices.
On the one hand, we have a fairly precise factory calibration and wide viewing angles (thanks to the IPS matrix), with another – low maximum brightness and glare display. Given that it is the last two parameters characterize the usability of the portable devices, Cube i9 display high scores in no way deserve. But if you use the device mostly at home, no problem.
With display finished, we move on to the tablet hardware.
The Cube i9 set is a serious mobile SoC – Intel Core m3-6Y30 (skylake architecture, 14 nm process), which we have already met in the review laptop Xiaomi Notebook Air 12.5.
At its core – two cores working in normal mode at 900 MHz and at a load rate of increase up to 2.2 GHz (Turbo Boost technology). Thanks to Hyper-Threading Technology kernel process data in four streams. For his work with video answers Intel HD Graphics 515 (300-850 MHz).
The amount of RAM Cube i9 is 4 GB, memory type – DDR3.
In most cases, 4 GB of memory is enough to satisfy the appetite of a full-fledged operating system. Comfortable to work with the tablet, the problems associated with the RAM, does not arise.
The benchmarks Cube i9 slightly inferior to other models on the same of SoC, but significantly ahead of devices, using as SoC Intel Atom.
In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 on the minimum graphics settings FPS keeps around 25-30, in severe stages observed drawdown up to 18 FPS.
In Dota 2 with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 on the minimum FPS graphics settings almost never drops below 35.
In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 on the minimum graphics settings FPS rarely rises above 20, playing uncomfortable.
As can be seen from the gaming tests, Cube i9 is not designed to run games in Full HD resolution. However, with a decrease in resolution of the situation is improving, and undemanding games should have no problems.
As for everyday performance, thanks to the full-fledged SSD and 4GB of RAM the machine runs very quickly and smoothly, with no brakes and delays. With web surfing problems also arise.
At Cube i9 installed a complete operating system – Windows 10 x64 in the wording of “Home”.
The user can toggle between the interface, optimized for touch devices – “Tablet Mode”, and the classic interface, familiar to any user of Windows.
For sound in the tablet corresponds to audio controller Realtek ALC283. External stereo devices have an average volume of stock, but good quality sound at all volume levels, including the highest.
When tested in RMAA Cube i9 connected to the sound card ASUS Xonar U7 with the signal / noise ratio at a record 113 dB.
The maximum volume of the signal for testing the device in RMAA was ~ -4.2 dB.
If we talk about the subjective impressions of the headphones Cube i9 sounds clean and pleasant, without any frills, but with plenty of volume.
The Cube i9 SSD M.2 installed capacity of 128 GB, manufactured by Foresee, which means that, if desired, the user can disassemble the tablet and replace the internal drive to another SSD M.2.
The device supports Bluetooth v4.0 protocols, and Wi-Fi – it is responsible for the module Realtek RTL8723B, which supports 802.11 b / g / n.
Standard 802.11ac device, unfortunately, does not support that negatively affects the transmission “on air” large amounts of information, but under standard usage scenarios Wi-Fi works fine, no complaints.
The Cube i9 has a removable lithium-ion battery with a total capacity of 10 000 mAh.
Let’s start with the results Battery Test benchmark Futuremark PCMark 8:
PCMark 8 says that the tablet will last up to four hours of moderate use of three hours in active mode.
All tests were performed at 100% brightness, with the included wireless interfaces.
In the “field testing» Cube i9 confirmed the results of synthetic applications – will work in mixed mode at best about five hours, which is enough for a portable device, but normal for a laptop.
Of course, more expensive models with the same “iron” can “survive” without a charger for much longer, but they cost several times more expensive review of the hero; we can say that the level of autonomy of the device corresponds to its price.
Cube tablet features two cameras: the main, with a resolution of 5.0 megapixels, and the front, with a resolution of 2.0 megapixels.
Examples of images with sufficient lighting:
The plates are rarely equipped with a good camera, a model of the type Cube i9, and does almost never. And the hero of this review is not an exception – a camera, of course, you can take a picture of something, for example, a tablet with some text, but this is the limit of its possibilities.
Shooting in difficult lighting conditions:
With shooting in low light conditions Cube i9 camera copes very mediocre, which, however, was expected.
The front camera Cube i9 may well be used for video, it provides an acceptable quality for this shooting.
Teclast X3 Pro has a smaller diagonal screen, and the battery capacity is lower than it has, but it can boast of 8 GB of RAM, and, judging by the reviews of users, higher quality performance.
In addition, it can be purchased branded stylus, but it is a device, of course, more expensive than the hero of this review.
At Dell Latitude 11 diagonal display less than the Cube model, respectively, and less weight. On the hardware part, they are almost identical, but the Dell tablet is worth twice as much.
However, for this amount the buyer receives the device well-known brand with the official guarantee, but is it worth such overpayment, everyone decides for himself.
Cube i9 – the device a fairly narrow category. It is not an entertainment device – for the same money it is more convenient to buy Android tablet or iPad, and they are suitable for such purposes much more. Cube i9 can offer significant functionality to users who know how to use and for what it is, in turn.
Before us is a typical “workhorse”, which combines good usability of the portable device with laptop capacity. You can certainly find fault with the design of the device and to the average battery life, but it is necessary to understand that the closest analogs known manufacturers, who have everything in order and appearance, and autonomy, are at least twice as expensive Cube i9.
Only, in my view, a significant drawback – low brightness and anti-glare properties mediocre display; because it loses some device portability. But for the price Cube i9 it looks attractive, competitive and well worth the purchase.
