Chuwi Vi10 Plus Review Tablet: Remix OS against all

Tablets from Chuwi has repeatedly been our guests. But until now we have considered the model of working on two operating systems: Windows and Android. And the presence of the two operating systems increases the cost of the product, both in software and in hardware (requires more memory). In addition, not all users need two systems.

Perhaps it is such considerations guided the company when released Chuwi Vi10 Plus tablet. It has not two but only one operating system. But it is in this lies the highlight. Meet – OS Remix 2.0.

This operating system is based on Android, but its interface is as close to Windows 10 (that’s where the name at the root of «mix»). Thanks to this new system should appeal to fans of both alternative systems. By the way, the OS Remix has an official website.

Let us return to the hero of the review. It is built on a quad-core Intel x5-Z8300, it is equipped with a large display (10.8 inches) and is equipped with a good set of input-output ports. However, he does not have a slot for the SIM-card and thus no way to connect to the mobile Internet without any additional devices. In connection with this circumstance it would be advantageous geography application space with access to Wi-Fi networks.

Chuwi Vi10 Plus: Specifications

For comparison, the figures closest to him the tablet of the same company with two operating systems Chuwi HiBook. In this device Atom processor series used Intel Cherry Trail x5-Z8300 quad-core designed for devices with low power consumption (TDP = 2 W). Rated frequency – 1.44 GHz, maximum – up to 1.84 GHz (Turbo Boost technology). The processor only supports single channel memory operation. RAM installed 2 GB, which is good for the middle level on Android devices.

Cameras, as usual for tablets, without claims for serious photography: 2 megapixels each (main and front). Autofocus and no flash. The tablet has a LED indicator, but it only shows the battery charging status (blinking – is charging, steady light – charging is complete).

Because the sensors in the tablet has an orientation sensor that is used to automatically rotate the image, as well as a light sensor that allows the automatic adjustment of screen brightness. Navigation no. Also, there is no built-in mobile modem, but you can connect an external modem through the USB port or to work through Wi-Fi.

The actual weight of the device is 689 g.

Chuwi Vi10 Plus: Packaging equipment

Packing the device is not too colorfully done, but firmly and securely. The box is made of thick and durable cardboard, and on the inner side of the upper cover is further pasted tablet of soft plastic to protect your tablet screen from impacts.

Top coated with only the name of the manufacturer (Chuwi), and a brief description of the tablet can be found at the end of the box:

In the open form of the box it looks like this (the protective bag of the tablet is removed):

According to allocate on a dark background frame bright spot display immediately possible to say that the display is made according to the classic two-layer technology – with an air gap between the screen and the touch-sensitive surface. Because of this doubles the number of reflective layers, and the display looks much brighter than the frame.

To the right of the Chuwi Vi10 Plus in the box is a cardboard case with accessories. Bit Accessories: charger and USB Type-C cable – USB 2.0.

The cable shown in the photograph may be used as a tablet to connect to the charger and to connect to the computer. The tablet is also available and a micro-USB port, but through his connection with computer does not work. This port works only with flash drives and other “passive» USB-devices.

Charger parameters are: Voltage – 5 V, the maximum current is given off – 3 A. That is, the current is quite high, but the mode of “fast charging” (ie, increase the transmission power by increasing the voltage) is not supported.

Summarize the contents of your package:

  • The tablet;
  • Charger;
  • USB-microUSB cable.

There is also ultrashort “User’s Guide” in English and Chinese, as well as, obviously, the warranty card (only in Chinese), but it is unlikely that these documents will have some utility.

Attachable keyboard (more precisely, the keyboard cover) is not included, it is sold separately. As a result, packaging can be assessed as very modest. Next, go to the main part of the package – the tablet.

Chuwi Vi10 Plus: Appearance and design

The tablet has a black border around the screen and a metal back cover, the latter additionally painted with paint under the “grungy metal.” So she turned, as it were “double metal”.

It looks like a tablet on the front side in the ON state with the attached cover-keyboard:

Chuwi Vi10 Plus Review Tablet: Remix OS against all

The design of the tablet is designed to override a job in landscape orientation. The front camera is located in the middle of the upper side of the wide, touch-sensitive buttons are decorated in the form of on-screen buttons, and when you turn the tablet are always at the bottom. But they are not decorated as in the “classical» Android-e.

There is also an additional touch button «Windows», designed as a typical badge with a smooth surface and is located on the right hand side of the display. And, although there is no Windows system here, the button is quite efficient: it duplicates the onscreen buttons “Home”.

Notification LED located at the upper left corner of the tablet. It only indicates the charging status and the lights (or “blinking”) red-orange.

The upper part of the keyboard cover can be folded into a triangular prism, and serve as a stand for the tablet itself. Afraid that this “triangle” and dispersed for the tablet to fall, it is not necessary: the cover in such a state securely with built-in magnets. But the angle is not adjustable. Although it is unlikely to need: the position of the tablet quite optimal.

Button on a keyboard large enough, are spaced 17 mm across. Button Shape not quite square, their size – 14.5 x 13.5 mm. Pressed easily, with a little click.

The keyboard does not only consist of the keyboard on it is also the touchpad, as is customary in notebooks. The touchpad has a size of 82 x 48 (not small). Control buttons “hidden” under the front left and right corners of the touchpad, they pressed a little more tightly than the keypad.

To the folding keyboard cover with the inserted tablet display does not come into contact with hard plastic buttons, rubber projections made for the corners of the keyboard:

The outer surface of the keyboard cover is rough, like a cloth. It should be noted that the keyboard is not the Cyrillic. To solve this problem have, unfortunately, on their own, in the traditional way – with the help of labels.

With regard to the operation of the keyboard under the Remix OS, here, similar to Android, the software had to do a little refinement to create a language-switching key combination possibilities. S

Now is time to go back to the Chuwi Vi10 Plus – we have not yet studied its back and sides.

On the rear side there is only the main camera and marking products, and all connectors and controls are located on the sidewalls. Their greatest concentration is observed near the upper-left corner of the product.

Now let us consider in detail the side of the device and see that they are located. The most intense connectors and audio devices – left edge. Consider it closer.

Here are (left to right): the left speaker grille, a slot for a micro-SD memory card port USB Type-C, micro-USB port, microphone hole, micro-HDMI port, 3.5 mm jack for headphones / headset.

Chuwi Vi10 Plus Review Tablet: Remix OS against all

It should be noted that, unlike the vast majority of other tablets and smartphones, charging our hero can not be done through micro-USB port. For this purpose, you can use only port USB Type-C (with an attached full-time to the tablet cable).

On the right side is just the right speaker. It can be seen on the edges of the two screws with heads under the hexagon-star (two more – on the left side).

The top of the left is the on / off button and volume rocker.

On the bottom are the pads to mate with a cover-keyboard and a rectangular opening for the insertion of guide pins keyboard.

The use of metal in the back cover not only adds to the aesthetics, but also improves heat distribution and heat transfer from the Chuwi Vi10 Plus. This is the right decision, as the cooling tablet of purely passive, fanless (and hence – silent).

The design of the tablet as a whole has made a favorable impression; although it felt a solid mass. When you try to bend or twist the tablet (within reason, without trying to damage), no squeaks inaudible. Hardware buttons have no backlash, pressed clearly with optimal effort.

In general, the design and assembly of new items is necessary to recognize quality.

Chuwi Vi10 Plus: Display

Tablet display has a resolution of 1920 x 1280, the proportion of 3: 2 (15:10), the pixel density of 214 ppi. When using the tablet with a comfortable distance of individual pixels or stepwise oblique lines are not visible.

The display is made on IPS technology, with an air gap between the screen and the touch layer. This design doubles the number of reflective layers in the display, which is why the work with him in high ambient light conditions may not be too comfortable. OGS technology (without air gap between layers) in this Chuwi Vi10 Plus is not applied (probably not to increase the cost of the device).

Chuwi Vi10 Plus Review Tablet: Remix OS against all

When cornering at 45 degrees decreased brightness about twice that for IPS-screens suitably. The classical problem – one film together – quite feasible.

When cornering at perpendicular directions parasitic shades hardly appear, and the contrast does not drop much. If diagonal corners on all IPS-screen contrast drops and there is a noticeable stronger stray light (glow-effect), you can observe this effect, and our hero:

On the black screen there is an area of increased exposure near the left edge of the screen. Increasing the brightness in this area – small and real images can not be seen.

Next, go to the instrumental tests. For measurements used calibrator X-Rite ColorMunki Display. The measurements were performed at neutral settings screen from switching off the automatic brightness adjustment.

The “average” curves were close to the norm, but unfortunately, the curve “looked up” in blue from the other two. However, the gap is not so significant that it is noticeable.

Almost “synchronous” drop curves of red and blue colors allows us to hope that the color temperature is not affected very much.

Indeed, the color temperature never strayed more than 500 degrees of the nominal value (6500K). This is a very good result, and quite rare, I must say!

Color Gamut – very close to the sRGB standard, which pleases at least good color temperature.

Perhaps only this picture will not allow the screen to call the “ideal”. All polls point gray wedge flew abroad a large blue oval indicating the border DeltaE <10. Spurious tones, though in small amounts, are present, although in reality it is not noticeable. Can we assume that the people of artistic professions, these shades will be able to notice.

Contrast hovering around 900, this is a very good result. Automatic brightness control is working correctly.

The level of marginal brightness (409 cd / m2) is quite high, which makes it possible to work with the tablet in high ambient light, even in the absence OGS technology. The minimum value (57 cd / m2) brightness slightly higher than optimal for use in total darkness, the brightness of the screen seems a bit overpriced.

Now we check what a touchscreen. Touchscreen detects up to 10 simultaneous touches, as is usually done for large displays:

As for the responsiveness of the touch screen, it is at a normal level, it is desirable not easy, and sure enough touch, but no violence is not required.

Sometimes in the process of testing it was seen delays in launching some touch application icons. In particular, such a delay (up to 2 seconds) were seen at the launch of the Chrome browser, which is why the icon instinctively pressed again, and finally opened the browser at once with two tabs (ie, the first press does not “stolen”). But, as with most other applications, such problems was not, it is probably not a problem touchscreen, and the problem of interaction between applications and tablet platforms.

The overall result of the display quality – very good, almost great. The screen has good color reproduction and high contrast; uncertainty with respect to the color settings denominations minimal.

Chuwi Vi10 Plus: Hardware platform and performance

The tablet used processor Intel Cherry Trail Atom x5-Z8300 with an integrated Intel HD Graphics graphics core. The processor contains 4 cores at a frequency of 1.44 GHz (nominal rate), 1.84 GHz – the maximum.

RAM – 2 GB, it is now normal average for systems based on Android. Flash memory type installed 32 GB eMMC. It is also good for the Android (for Windows would be enough). If desired, you can further expand the memory using a microSD card.

Symbolic 27th place shows that our device does not belong to the flagship. The performance he takes his rightful place among the “strong middling ‘, which, given the performance of today’s” average performance “, it is very nice, especially for tablets.

Walk on our Chuwi Vi10 Plus has several popular tests. 3DMark test – Ice Storm Extreme:

Chuwi Vi10 Plus: Software and firmware

Please briefly at the operating system interface Remix 2.0 features. Interface and externally and functionally very similar to the Windows 10. There is a button “Start” (or rather its equivalent), have the taskbar, system tray, the possibility of a multi-use apps, and more.

Near the lower left corner you can see on a white background open application panel that mimics the proper “tiling” panel, a pop-up in Windows 10 on the button “Start”. Here, too, it may pop up and get out at the user’s command.

Below we see the taskbar, which begins with the “Start” button, indicated by a strange sign. But this sign is not so strange, it is a part of the logo Jide, operating system development company:

Next on the panel followed by two buttons, inherited from Android:. «Back” and “Home” Then, the taskbar shows the running applications and the right – the system tray. The taskbar can also hide (to increase the on-screen workspace). In short, all familiar to “native» Windows.

In the English-language interface is the current time is displayed correctly.

As mentioned above, the system allows, it looks to work in a multi-mode as follows:

In this screenshot you can see the two open windows: «Google Play» window and the settings window. In the upper right corner of the windows you can see the traditional Windows icons folding / unfolding / closing windows.

In order that the application can run in windowed mode, it is necessary to go to the settings and switch the “Open in full screen mode” set to an inactive position (it is for a specific application). This point and is visible in the settings window.

If you look at history, we can recall that Android applications running in windowed mode, the system has been made possible for quite some time. But here, in the System Remix, she brought to the same convenience as it is done in Windows.

Chuwi Vi10 Plus: Multimedia

We go to the multimedia capabilities, and check the video.

Integrated video player tablet as usual (with rare exceptions), capricious in playable video formats, and many of them are without sound, if audio is AC3 format. Therefore, as usual, it has been installed VLC player, although there are other players running support with correct audio and video formats.

Thus, the playback of most films are not expected from the network problems.

Audio playback on the built-in stereo speakers, a tablet, which was made possible thanks to the real presence of two speakers with the best possible acoustic diversity: they are on the side faces of the tablet.

Mid and high frequencies are reproduced well, and balanced, but the bass is clearly not enough. But the stock volume is enough to “pull” even “quiet” tracks in films, but only in a not very noisy environment. In headphones, as usual, the sound quality is much better. And with the volume and the frequency range there are no problems, the noise is not audible.

It remains to add to the above results of test measurements with subsequent treatment program RMAA:

Qualitative assessments are also RMAA program. As a result of this audiotesta we can say that the tablet showed a very decent results.

Thus, the multimedia tablet functions operate at a very high level. Particularly pleased with built-in speakers and stereo sound this good volume.

Chuwi Vi10 Plus: Memory and file system

The test tablet has 32GB of internal flash memory type eMMC. Unlike traditional systems on Android, OS settings Remix is no section “Memory”, but its status can be seen, for example, the built-in file manager:

Of course, the memory of the device is used for internal purposes. The user remains available to 25.3 GB. With this amount of saving the user will be able to do without an extra memory card. Instead of saving the user can insert a memory card micro-SD. The tablet has successfully recognized the card to 64 GB, must “understand” and more capacious cards.

In addition, as an economical and less cost-effective, users can temporarily through a micro-USB port to connect external storage. They can be as conventional “stick” and capacious external hard drives. In the attached screenshot below shows that the tablet has successfully recognized the portable hard drive WD My Passport (750 GB):

In addition about connecting external devices to the USB ports must be added that the standard USB 2.0 or 3.0 on a tablet is not present, there are micro-USB and USB Type-C. Therefore, all devices with standard connectors can only be connected through adapters or hubs. And by the way, it is a pity that the manufacturer is not staffed tablet by any such adapter.

However, already commercially available and “dual” stick with a standard A plug and socket Type-C, and they do not need an adapter. But while it is a rarity.

Chuwi Vi10 Plus: Wireless interfaces and communication

From wireless communication set in the Chuwi Vi10 Plus are only Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Mobile Internet is not provided.

Connectivity Wi-Fi worked fine and adequate speed local “transit” service provider:

Communication range over Wi-Fi at a good level, providing a secure connection from an adjacent room, and it was also “seen” with a good signal level and a plurality of neighboring access points.

As for Bluetooth, then it worked fine, but it’s not a quick communication channel. This communication is not better to use for file transfer (especially volume), and to connect the wireless speaker, and similar peripherals.

Chuwi Vi10 Plus: Battery

Battery capacity is quite high, even for 10-inch tablets, 8,400 mAh. And this is certainly reflected in the device weight. Let us hope that this is done is not in vain, and the autonomy of the tablet does not disappoint.

The test results in three modes of energy consumption (high, medium and low) are presented in the following table.

As a result, the Chuwi Vi10 Plus showed a level of autonomy, a little higher than the average, so that the expectations have been met.

During the passage of the battery AnTuTu test this test all the time showing 25 degrees battery temperature regardless of the degree of heating:

Apparently, in the application of the battery no battery temperature sensor and the Chuwi Vi10 Plus shows some constant “default”. Explosion protection device is not threatened because the tablet does not become hot even under heavy loads.

Battery duration was somewhat higher than typical devices with lithium-ion batteries and amounted to 3.5 hours (in the vast majority of other tablets and smartphones around 3 hours).

Results for autonomy were scored as positive. For tablets with a large screen size and high resolution (here it is vertically even higher than the standard Full HD) is difficult to expect a higher autonomy.

Chuwi Vi10 Plus: Camera

By tradition, the tablets are usually set weak camera, much weaker than in smartphones. Our hero is not an exception – it has a 2-megapixel rear camera and the same 2-megapixel front. Flash and autofocus none of them are not.

Let us consider the examples of test shots and start with the rear camera test shots.

In fact, in the large-format tablet (10 or more inches) rear camera are usually not used by consumers as to photograph such a large “camera” is simply inconvenient. It seems to me that the manufacturer would be necessary to opt out of the rear camera, instead of putting the camera purely “pro forma.” This tablet will be smarter, but the price – for a few dollars less.

In contrast, the rear camera front turned to the normal quality (again, for your 2-megapixel resolution), here’s an example image:

This image can blame except in inaccurate color balance (excess pinks). And for video calls using Skype and other similar applications, the camera is completely suitable. Nothing else on the 2-megapixel camera, and we do not expect.

Chuwi Vi10 Plus: Comparison with competitors

Tablets OS Remix is not a mass market product, so competitors will pick up on the Android system.

Let us consider the above competitors. Let’s start with the model Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L. The operating system of the tablet (as well as other listed competitors) is not too new, Android 4.4. But the tablet is in the order of things, as the tablets more “conservative” class of devices than smartphones.

As is now customary, the company Lenovo, the price there is some “premium for the brand.” But the device is really good. From the technical shortcomings should be noted a small amount of internal memory, and of the advantages – the minimum weight and the presence of the mobile Internet.

The next competitor – Archos 101 Magnus Plus. This competitor, unlike the previous one, is characterized as a time maximum amount of internal memory – as much as 128 GB!

That should be enough for the long haul, and this is the main advantage of this over other competitors. As for the processor speed, it is slightly inferior to our hero.

And finally, the last – Wexler .TAB i10 +. This tablet has a weaker processor than our hero, and a smaller amount of internal memory.

But he has a mobile internet and navigation. Therefore, if the user is important to have these components on a large tablet for a minimal amount, it is worth it to pay attention.

So successfully completed testing of one of the world’s first tablet, which was originally installed by the manufacturer Remix operating as the main system. Can we consider the self Remix operating system or shell for Android – Let’s “leave out” the issue. Like it or not, a newborn child will get a lovely and quite functional, but the development team did their best and all our plans implemented. Because of this you need to get used to the system time was close to zero: plug and enjoy!

We now turn to the specific technical characteristics of “iron” in this tablet. They were the majority of the items very well, and if considered only in the context of the tablets, it is almost the highest in its price category. Unfortunately, “summed up” the rear tablet camera. It can be said straight out: you can not use it. Although the tablet could have absolutely do without it, and without any loss of functionality.

Separately dwell on the issue of mobile internet and navigation, which are not equipped with this tablet. For such large devices, these functions are desired, but not required. Typically, they are used to more compact devices (smartphones), which can be on the car windshield attach; or, for example, to talk with them on Skype, vayberu and the like, being on the street. Maybe it would be worth the manufacturer to issue a separate modifiatsiyu tablet, wherever there were modules of navigation and 3G / 4G internet, albeit at a slightly higher price.

It would also be better if the keyboard is included and not sold for some money. Especially because of its usefulness is undeniable: she plays and the actual keyboard and mouse (through the touchpad), and stand, and a protective cover to prevent mechanical damage to the device.

Pros Chuwi Vi10 Plus:

  • Work Remix operating system with a convenient interface for many users;
  • Good quality and high resolution screen;
  • Good performance;
  • Sufficient RAM and flash memory;
  • The presence of the slot for external memory card;
  • Good multimedia capabilities (video and sound);
  • High quality materials and good build quality,

Cons Chuwi Vi10 Plus::

  • Low quality images rear camera;
  • The lack of a standard full size of USB-ports.

Can not arrange:

  • No built-in mobile modem;
  • The lack of the navigation;
  • The minimum grade;
  • Lack Cyrillic keyboard stickers are required.
