Chuwi Hi10 Pro Review Dual Boot-tablet: Windows and Remix/Android in one bottle

Today we review Chuwi Hi10 Pro. It is worth noting that Chinese company also produces tablets with similar names – Chuwi Hi10 and Chuwi Hi10 Plus. They are characterized by constructive and Chuwi Hi10 – and software. Accordingly, please do not confuse them with each other and with an overview of the hero.

The tablet Chuwi Hi10 Pro used processor series Atom Intel Cherry Trail x5-Z8300 quad-core designed for devices with low power consumption (TDP = 2 W). Rated frequency – 1.44 GHz; but it is adapted to the load and can be increased up to 1.84 GHz (Turbo Boost technology of Intel). The processor only supports single channel memory operation. RAM installed 4 GB, which is good for Windows and is very good for Android.

Just a camera, two megapixels each. Flash and autofocus no one. The tablet Chuwi Hi10 Pro has an indicator, but it only shows the battery charging status (blinking – is charging, steady light – charging is complete). Because the sensors are in plate orientation sensor used to automatically rotate the image; and a light sensor that allows the automatic adjustment of screen brightness. Navigation no. Also, there is no built-in mobile modem; but you can connect an external modem through the USB port or to work through Wi-Fi.

The actual weight of the device was 560 g; it is quite a small value for the tablet with 10-inch screen.

Chuwi Hi10 Pro: Packaging equipment

Packaging device conditionally divided into two parts – “binding” (the one that is in the box with the tablet) and “optional” (optional and sold separately).

Let’s start with the “mandatory”. Packaging device is made in the traditional company Chuwi simple but robust style:

The box is very strong, and for additional protection of the display on the back of the top cover layer is bonded porous protective plastic.

Information about the name of the tablet Chuwi Hi10 Pro and its main characteristics is contained on the label located on the left side of the box:

On the reverse side of the box very useful information there except to contact the manufacturer:

In the open form of the box it looks like this (the protective bag of the tablet is removed):

This picture already allows to draw conclusions about the technical features of the tablet. By allocates frames on a dark background stain brighter display can be said that the display is made by classical bilayer technology – with an air gap between the touch screen surface. Technology OGS (One Glass Solution) is not applied. Because of this doubles the number of reflective layers, and the display is considerably lighter than the frame (if it is black).

On the tablet Chuwi Hi10 Pro screen protective film pasted transport, under which there is another one – this time in “combat” protective film. In this connection, I recommend caution and not immediately tear film transport with “combat”.

Chuwi Hi10 Pro Review Dual Boot-tablet: Windows and Remix/Android in one bottle

To the left of the tablet Chuwi Hi10 Pro in a small cardboard box is a pencil case with accessories, of which quite a bit – charger and USB Type-C cable – USB 2.0. First, look at the battery charger:

Charger – not typical. It is characterized by high output current – 3 A, voltage – standard, 5 V.

Now lets look at cable, these cables are also not yet very widespread:

A differs by the presence of the cable symmetrical connector USB Type-C:

These connectors are very convenient: no need to see if the orientation you put it in correctly. But rarity is to be a limiting factor. Although its future and consider mainly the USB standard for mobile devices (but not now).

The cable shown in the photograph may be used as a tablet to connect to the charger and to connect to the computer, but with a view to the latter only in the operating system Remix (Android). To connect external devices to the tablet in Windows mode or the need to purchase an additional adapter cable USB-OTG (for the micro-USB port) or USB-hub to USB Type-C port. Nothing can be done: that is progressive port USB Type-C has not found the proper dissemination of latitude, and without such “tricks” can not do.

We now turn to the “optional” part of the set – attachable keyboard (docking station). It is very useful, but unfortunately sold separately and for some money.

Chuwi Hi10 Pro Review Dual Boot-tablet: Windows and Remix/Android in one bottle

It should be noted that the keyboard is not the Cyrillic. To solve this problem have, unfortunately, on their own, in the traditional way – with the help of labels.

The size of the buttons is not small, 14 x 13 mm (main button), the distance between them – 3 mm. In the near side of the keyboard is the touchpad size of 83 x 40 mm. Under it are the hardware buttons simulating left and right mouse button. That is, it is necessary to press on the near left and right corners of the touchpad. Clicking they give a clear and louder than the keyboard by pressing the buttons.

There are buttons to control the screen brightness and sound volume. Illuminated buttons. On the side faces of the keyboard are also located two additional full-sized USB-ports version 2.0. At the top of the keyboard is a turning mechanism with the guide pins and spring-loaded contacts for the merging of the Chuwi Hi10 Pro.

Below right pin has two small LEDs. Left indicates the status of the tablet turn, and the right – the state of CapsLock switch.

The plate is fixed on the mechanical keyboard with built-in magnets, no mechanical latches there. Probably because of the steel elements in the rotary mechanism of the mass of the keyboard to get even a little more than the mass of the tablet – 582.

Another element of optional equipment – the stylus. For Chuwi tablets produced two kinds of styluses: HiPen H1 and HiPen H2. Compatibility with tablet stylus is listed on the official pages of the tablet. We as an example a brief look at the stylus HiPen H1. Stylus Chuwi HiPen delivered in canisters, without instructions and other securities:

The stylus can be useful to consumers who like to do “hand-written” record; or, for example, work with them in graphic editors.

It looks stylus itself is standard – a “ballpoint pen” with two control buttons.

The buttons are pressed with an average amount of force which prevents their accidental operation. Next to one of the buttons is not marked with a hole, which was apparently hiding «Reset» button. Power stylus carried by a tiny penlight batteries AAAA format; standard voltage, 1.5 volts.

Chuwi Hi10 Pro Review Dual Boot-tablet: Windows and Remix/Android in one bottle

Among the shortcomings should be noted the presence of a small gap (about 0.2-0.3 mm) at the tip of the pen. This play not only interfere with work, as creates psychological discomfort at the time of contact between the stylus from the screen surface. HiPen H2 stylus different from the one considered HiPen H1 design. Stylus HiPen H2 is not powered by batteries and the built-in battery.

To summarize the Chuwi Hi10 Pro packaging:

  • Sam tablet with a protective film;
  • Charger;
  • USB cable – USB Type-C;
  • Keyboard (docking station) and a stylus – optional.

There is also ultrashort “User’s Guide” in English and Chinese languages, but it is unlikely it will have some utility. “The bulk” packaging can be assessed as very modest.

Next, go to the main part of the package – the tablet.

Chuwi Hi10 Pro: Appearance and design

The tablet has a wide dark frame around the screen (in tablets accepted to do a broad frame) and a metal back cover.

It looks like a tablet on the front side in Windows 10 with a keyboard attached:

The design of the tablet is designed to override a job in landscape orientation. The front camera is located on top of the “long” side, all connections and controls do not lose access to the keyboard after accession.

There is also an additional touch button «Windows», designed as a typical badge with a smooth surface and is located on the right hand side of the display. In Windows it is used for its intended purpose, and the system Remix (Android) duplicates the onscreen buttons “Home”.

Notification LED located at the upper left corner of Chuwi Hi10 Pro. It only indicates the charging status and the lights (or “blinking”) red-orange:

Also, this indicator is a single “blinking” confirms the user to a successful start of the boot process, which is necessary to enable the button for a long time hold down for about 4 … 5 seconds. But it is good to protect the tablet from accidental activation, for example, during transport. Slightly to the right of the LED is a bright spot of light sensor.

The keyboard with the inserted tablet can be folded like a normal laptop. In this case, as in the present the laptop is automatically extinguished by the backlight.

By the way, just given angle can be clearly seen the location of one of the two additional full size of USB-ports, located on the lateral edges of the keyboard.

It should be noted that the keyboard only contains an input device, an additional battery there. In this connection, the keyboard will be for the tablet consumer of energy, not a source.

Now separate the tablet from the keyboard and look at it separately, because the keyboard is still optional and not all users may be required.

On the rear side there is only the main camera and marking products, and all connectors and controls are located on the sidewalls.

The most intense connectors and audio devices, tablet side – left. Consider it in more detail:

Here are (left to right): the left speaker grille, a slot for a micro-SD memory card port USB Type-C, micro-USB port, microphone hole, micro-HDMI port, 3.5 mm jack for headphones / headset.

At the same time we note that the label on the rear cover is marked only a slot for micro-SD cards (not to be confused how to insert it). The rest of the connectors are not marking, which may cause a slight confusion for inexperienced users.

The right side is almost free. There is just the right speaker. It can be seen on the edges of the two screws with hexagon socket head, in addition to holding the cover plate (two more – on the left side).

Almost in the crook of the top face and the back cover box located rear camera; and on the left we see the on / off button and volume rocker. Rocker made correctly: above the surface just as much as is necessary, and has no backlash and “turbulence”.

On the bottom are the pads to mate with attachable keyboard and a rectangular opening for the insertion of guide pins keyboard.

A few words about the materials applied to Chuwi Hi10 Pro. The back cover plate is made of aluminum, which is undoubtedly useful for heat removal from the tablet. The cover apparently has some thermal interface with the processor, because, as will be shown further tests even under heavy load, heat processing is not observed.

Attachable keyboard made mainly of plastic, and only its metallic swivel mechanism. Here, metal (steel) used not for aesthetics and to primagnitilsya tablet to the keyboard (in the literal sense of the word) with their connection.

The design of the tablet as a whole made a good impression. Slots, squeaks, backlashes and other assembly defects noticed. Tablet weight is small for his size. In general, the design and assembly of the plate it is necessary to approve, except for the lack of full-size of USB-ports on the tablet (without keyboard).

Chuwi Hi10 Pro: Display

Chuwi Hi10 Pro display has a resolution of 1920 x 1200, the proportion of 16:10, the pixel density of 224 ppi. When using the tablet with a comfortable distance of individual pixels or stepwise oblique lines are not visible.

The display is made on IPS technology, with an air gap between the screen and the touch layer. Such an arrangement doubles the number of layers in the reflective display, due to which work with it under conditions of high ambient light is not too comfortable. OGS technology (without air gap between layers) in this plate is not applied (probably not to increase the cost of the device).

Chuwi Hi10 Pro: Hardware platform and performance

Chuwi Hi10 Pro used processor Intel Cherry Trail Atom x5-Z8300 with an integrated Intel HD Graphics graphics core. The processor contains four cores at a frequency of 1.44 GHz (nominal rate), 1.84 GHz – the maximum (due to the Turbo Boost technology).

The amount of RAM – 4 GB, it is good for Windows and is very good for Android (in this case – the Remix OS). EMMC Flash memory type is set to 64GB. This memory is allocated between the two operating systems, and, as we shall see, with the advantage given to Windows. If desired, you can further expand the memory using a microSD card.

Performance check in both systems (Windows and Remix / Android); and where it will be able to compare results, be sure to do it! Getting Started with Windows.

Chuwi Hi10 Pro: Software and firmware

In the Windows system is not installed in the tablet of additional software, there is only the software that is included directly in the Windows. The interface looks like a standard, with the ability to switch between “desktop” and “Tiles”:

Initially installed in Windows ‘default’ English. The system Remix (Android) – is similar.

It is «SwitchNOW» tab in the upper left corner of the image. Its launch enables the tablet to switch from Windows to Remix «Software” means, without shutting down.

List of applications preinstalled on Chuwi Hi10 Pro manufacturer Remix system (Android), you can see the following screenshot:

The same image will assess similarities and Remix interface on Windows. Near the lower left corner you can see on a white background open application panel that mimics the proper “tiling” panel, a pop-up in Windows 10 on the button “Start”. Here, too, it may pop up, and get out at the user’s command.

Below we see the taskbar, which begins with the “Start” button, marked an unusual sign. This symbol – stylized letters «de», which in turn is the end of the company name «Jide» – OS developer Remix.

Instead of the current time, the operating system displays the letters HH: MM, and day of the week shows still correct. In the English-language interface, this is no problem, everything is displayed correctly.

Switching between operating systems in the plate is carried out in several ways. From Windows to Android, you can switch using a utility called «SwitchNOW», and from Android in Windows – selection of «Windows» from the plate off the menu:

In addition, the choice of operating system can be done at the moment when Chuwi Hi10 Pro. The tablet gives you 10 seconds to think about what system you want to load.

Chuwi Hi10 Pro: Multimedia

Now we go to the multimedia capabilities, and check the video. there was no problem in Windows system with video playback. All videos, including 4K format (3840 x 2160), reproduced without any defects.

Integrated video player tablet system Remix (All Android), as it usually happens (with rare exceptions), capricious in playable video formats, and many of them are without sound, if audio is AC3 format. Therefore, as usual, it has been installed VLC player; although there are other players with the correct support for running audio and video formats.

Thus, when playing movies from most network problems are not expected in any of the systems (Windows and Remix / Android).

Audio playback on the built-in tablet speakers – the stereo that was made possible by the real presence of two speakers with the best possible acoustic diversity. They are located at the sides of the tablet.

Mid and high frequencies are reproduced well, and balanced, but the bass is clearly not enough. But the volume of stock is enough to “pull” even “silent” audio tracks in movies. In headphones, as usual, the sound quality is much better. And with the volume and the frequency range there are no problems, the noise is not audible.

Qualitative assessments are also RMAA program. As a result of this audio test it can be said that Chuwi Hi10 Pro showed a very decent results. And in general, the sound quality of the channel for Chinese manufacturers very standing at attention – “failing” model, there are now extremely rare.

Thus, the multimedia tablet functions operate at a very high level. Even the built-in speakers and stereo sound pleased by this good volume.

Chuwi Hi10 Pro: Memory and file system

The test tablet has 64GB of internal flash memory such as eMMC, which is divided between Windows and Android so that the sections of a system of completely invisible to another. Transferring files between systems is possible only through the external device such as a “flash drive», micro-SD memory card, or via an external network storage.

But let’s start with a detailed examination of the disk Windows. For Windows section organized capacity of 41 GB; available to the user about 27 GB, the rest is occupied by the system.

The schedule turned out pretty “rugged” (especially in the middle), but critical failures it does not have.

Average read speed (130.9 MB / s) for this type of disk storage was about 4 times less than for a typical “real» SSD-drive, where it is 480-540 MB / s. But the system works in our energy-saving processor will be sufficient.

The system also Remix (Android) the size of user-accessible flash memory is much smaller, about 12 GB:

By the way, just the screenshot pay attention to the “basket” icon. It performs the same function as in Windows; but, unlike the latter, it is not on the desktop, and from within the app “File Manager”. Cart is necessary from time to time to clear, otherwise the memory will be “hammered” not until the end of the deleted files.

To increase the amount of memory is better to buy an additional micro-SD memory card. At the same time there will be also a good tool for sharing files between Windows and Remix (Android). Both systems (Windows and Remix) successfully “see” Memory Card 64 GB capacity (128 GB and must “understand”).

As for the connection of external devices to the tablet via a USB port, the connection is also possible in both systems as OS Remix supports USB OTG mode. At the same time it revealed the feature: if the conventional “stick”, “visible” Chuwi Hi10 Pro in Windows, and in Remix; the portable hard drive only works on Windows. And you need to connect it directly to the tablet via the USB OTG adapter cable. A device with low power consumption (eg, conventional “stick”) can be connected both to the plate and to the USB ports on the connected keyboard (docking station).

To recharge the battery charger should be strictly connected to the port USB Type-C, located on the tablet itself.

Chuwi Hi10 Pro: Wireless interfaces and communication

From wireless communication set in the plate are only Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Mobile Internet is not provided.

In connection with such a hardware configuration of the Internet access is possible in any areas where the access points Wi-Fi; or using USB connection via the mobile communication modem; or through an access point, organized in the user’s own phone (in Android it is done very easily).

Communication range over Wi-Fi at the secondary level. Communication in the same room with the access point is good, but in the next room the speed drops significantly even with the door open between rooms.

As for Bluetooth, then this is not a fast connection at all. This communication is not better to use to transfer files and connect to wireless speakers and similar peripherals.

Chuwi Hi10 Pro: Battery

Battery capacity too high for the 10-inch tablet, 6500 mAh. In such devices, the display is a major consumer of energy, pushing into “wayside” processor and other devices.

The plate showed the level of autonomy is below average, both on the “opinion” of the test tools, and the duration of the actual work. The results were equivalent for both operating systems. Actually, it is expected from the values of the tablet battery capacity.

During the passage of the battery AnTuTu test this test all the time showing 25 degrees battery temperature regardless of the degree of heating:

Apparently, no battery or a temperature sensor, Chuwi Hi10 Pro does not process its data. Explosion protection device is not threatened because the tablet does not become too hot even under heavy loads.

Battery duration has turned common as in the vast majority of other tablets and smartphones – about three hours.

Results of autonomy is estimated as low.

Chuwi Hi10 Pro: Camera

By tradition, the plates are usually installed weaknesses camera; It is much weaker than in smartphones. Our hero is not an exception – it has a 2-megapixel rear camera and the same 2-megapixel front. Autofocus and no flash.

The front camera takes also not elegant, but for the traditional application (video calling on Skype, etc.) that will be enough.

The results of the test shooting. The rear camera has proved to be very simple and not at all suitable for the actual filming. Alas, the tradition to put cheap rear camera in the plates was not impaired.

As for the front-facing camera, then it is not presented high requirements (selfie to take such a big tablet is not one), and so it may well be used for its intended purpose as a web camera.

Chuwi Hi10 Pro: Comparison with Competitors

Dual-system plates are not a mass market product, but competitors for them to eat, and some of them we now consider.

Let us consider the above competitors. Let’s start with the model Chuwi HiBook. This tablet is manufactured by the same company as our hero, is based on the same processor, it has the same screen size, and he, too, the two operating systems.

A contrast him that as the second operating system had not set Remix, classical and Android. This model will appeal to those users who believe that Android should be similar to Android, but not on Windows. In addition, it has a high quality rear camera – 5.0 megapixel camera with autofocus. Of the minuses – a little higher price.

The next opponent – Onda Obook 20 Plus. This competitor has also coinciding with our hero processor and is also thin and light.

The difference – a complete lack of rear camera. But it is likely that a significant portion of consumers is satisfied. Disadvantage: only a USB-port (and the micro-USB, rather than a full-size).

Finally, Teclast TBook11. Its display is half an inch larger than our hero, and a little more weight, respectively.

Most of the other features are the same or almost the same as tested tablet. The lack of similar to the previous competitor: one microUSB-port.

Chuwi Hi10 Pro: Conclusion

Tablet Chuwi Hi10 Pro considered in this review is a combination of non-standard operating systems: Windows 10 and is still rare Remix 2.0. The latter in its interface is very similar to Windows 10. Therefore, the current set of operating systems and can be interpreted in another way: here the Windows installed two: normal and even – compatible with Android (just kidding).

Having two operating systems is certainly convenient. The user can install applications for any of them, and when the choice is more – it is always best. The question of which is better – a “real» Android or Remix (Android c Windows interface) – a purely psychological. Someone more comfortable one, but someone – else. This tablet can be converted into a laptop with the keyboard connection (docking station). However, the keyboard for this tablet will have to buy separately and for some money that will not carry to advantages.

Performance of the tablet at a high level and will not only work with texts and spreadsheets, but also play many 3D-games. But, of course, not in the most demanding; because the performance of any tablet at times lagged behind the performance of modern desktop system even average.

There our hero and disadvantages. In terms of structural elements, we note the absence of a full-size USB ports. The problem can be solved with the help of a small and inexpensive adapter cable, USB-OTG, but the user would have to carry around (and do not forget!) The extra detail. In technical terms, we note the poor quality of the rear camera images.

Pros Chuwi Hi10 Pro:

  • Ability to work in two operating systems;
  • The design in the form of “Transformers” (the ability to use and as a tablet and a laptop);
  • Good quality and high resolution display;
  • Sufficient RAM and flash memory;
  • The presence of the slot for external memory card;
  • Good multimedia capabilities (video and sound);
  • High quality materials and good build quality;
  • The relatively low weight of the device.

Cons Chuwi Hi10 Pro:

  • The lack of full-length of USB-ports;
  • Low quality images rear camera;
  • Low battery life.

Can not arrange:

  • No built-in mobile modem;
  • The lack of the navigation;
  • The minimum grade;
  • Absence of Cyrillic on the keyboard (the dock), required stickers.
