be quiet! Pure Base 600 Test and review: an inexpensive quiet case

Company be quiet! It can hardly be attributed to the manufacturers of low cost products. However, with the new Pure Base housing 600 the company moved away from their traditions, and introduced its first building at the price of 100 euros cheaper. But if the new housing Midi Tower will be able to provide the traditional benefits be quiet !?

Company be quiet! I entered the buildings segment rather late. In any case, it can be called a previous model very attractive. In particular, note the line of Silent Base, which we tested housing Silent Base 600 and Silent Base 800 , as well as an impressive top model Dark Base 900 . But the body be quiet! sold at a price of 100 euros more expensive, so they are hardly able to engage users with a limited budget.

But everything changes with the body be quiet! Pure Base 600. The recommended retail price of case is only 89 euros. In retail housing can be sure to find even cheaper. So be quiet! Pure Base 600 can be called the most expensive housing be quiet! the company’s history. But buyers are unlikely to have to get serious on the basic functions of the victim. Pure Base has the characteristic of be quiet! design, the body also refers to a low model. Note soundproofing removable lid Pure Wings two fans and fan controller that guarantees a minimum level of noise. However, be quiet! It provides a high level of configuration flexibility. Midi Tower housing can be adapted to different scenarios.

In addition to the user guide and mounting various accessories (except the power supply mounting screws are missing, as in the Corsair buildings), together with be quiet! Pure Base 600 you will get only four cable tightening Velcro to facilitate cabling.

Before we proceed to the test, let me give housing specifications in tabular form:

be quiet! Pure Base 600 | Exterior view

At first glance, be quiet! Pure Base 600 is visible belonging to the corps be quiet! The latest model, we also get a solid front panel with two vertical mesh inserts on the sides. Unlike buildings Silent Base, the front door is gone. Two external 5.25″ bays are available directly. The front panel of the case is decorated with a textured aluminum, but also plastic in front of us.

be quiet! Pure Base 600 Test and review: an inexpensive quiet case

Plastic tabs quite easily squeezed out, and then the entire front panel can be removed. It is clearly seen that the be quiet! insulating mats installed behind the front panel and two plugs drives. Front 140 mm fan takes fresh air through the side panel with coarse wire mesh, which is complemented by plastic fine mesh. A special dust filter be quiet! not established. Side mesh panels can be removed for cleaning – but only after the removal of the entire front panel, held plastic latches.

All cases and controls ports located between the slant end face of the front panel and lid. On the I / O panel, there are two (black) USB 3.0 ports and audio ports, which is to be expected from this class prices. It’s nice that the buttons except the power and reset the manufacturer added the slider fan controller with three steps. The controller can connect up to three fans via 3-pin connectors.

In addition to the front cover and the manufacturer has made a solid cover. Staffing is closed end panel, except that in the rear, you can see the ventilation holes, so that the source of the noise enclosure remote from the user. But the plastic panel with sound insulating plate can be removed, after which the optional fans under the hood will be free to throw the hot air out. If you prefer water cooling, the cover can be installed under the 360-mm coil CBO. But between the lid and the upper end of the motherboard is left only 4 cm of space in which to fit a thin heat exchangers with a 120 mm fan.

Interestingly, because of the offset fasteners cover may be partially open.

The two side panels be quiet! Pure Base 600 solid body. But you can see the additional ventilation holes on the rear panel. By neckline for an ATX power supply, I / O panel of the motherboard and expansion card slot is visible to the traditional layout of the components. Here is a 120-mm fan, a second fan preinstalled in the enclosure.

Midi Tower housing mounted on plastic feet with rubber pads. Under the power supply is installed dust filter.

be quiet! Pure Base 600 | Interior

be quiet! Pure Base 600 Test and review: an inexpensive quiet case

Two thumb screws that secure the side panel after loosening remain in the fixtures, so you do not lose. Both side panels are equipped with soundproof pads.

The black interior is well structured, with a modular design. Three 3.5 “rack and a 5.25” rack (with a slightly more complex installation) can be recovered separately, for example, to make room for long graphics cards or the front of the heat exchanger. If we abandon the 5.25 “drives completely, it is possible to install a heat exchanger 360 mm behind the front panel. In contrast to the attachment under the lid, you can install the 140- or 280-mm coils. You can not remove the front 3.5” rack, if the thickness of the front of the heat exchanger does not exceed 3.5 cm.

Installing expansion cards solved very convenient. Be quiet! I used the good old thumb screws. The power supply is mounted on four small rubber feet. However, the vibration isolation from the rear wall have housing.

Thumbscrews are screwed not only an expansion card. They are designed for mounting two optical drives.

3.5-inch hard drives on the other hand, conventional cross head screws are screwed. To get to the front screws, rack drives will have to be removed. Isolation of a 3.5 “hard disk is provided with rubber gaskets. The rack can be fastened on two 2.5” drive.

Behind the motherboard tray is available for mounting two more 2.5 “drives. The SSD or HDD in 2.5” format bolted to the removable trays. Around the motherboard, you can see a large number of holes for cable routing. Of course, the motherboard tray be quiet! Pure Base 600 has a large cutout for the CPU back plate mounting.

Three 3.5 “rack bolted to a tray with three thumbscrews. It is enough to loosen the screws, and then remove the rack easily.

Many of the components in the housing be quiet! installed without the aid of a screwdriver. Although in some places still need a screwdriver. In any case, we were able to establish our test system in the be quiet! Pure Base 600 quickly and effortlessly. It is a pity that the holes for laying cables is not covered with rubber inserts. But their task they cope.

be quiet! Pure Base 600: The test system, ventilation and tests

Of course, the body must not only be functional and easy to assemble. It should also provide efficient cooling.

Test configuration:

We used the following test configuration:

The main components of the test system
CPU:Intel Core i5-2400S
CPU Cooler:Scythe Yasya
Motherboard:Biostar H77MU3
Operative memory:4096 MHz 1333 MB Crucial
Storage device:OCZ Arc 100 SSD 240 GB
Video card:Sapphire Radeon HD 7750 Ultimate
Operating system:Windows 7 x64 Home Premium

Temperature measurements:

For measurement of the maximum temperature of the CPU test, we used the free tool Prime95, which loads the system for 30 minutes. We chose the Small FFT load that maximizes heat dissipation, and then fixed the maximum core temperature using the system utility Lavalys Everest. We have combined temperature for the individual nuclei, and then divided them by the number of cores. At the same time we loaded the graphics card a demanding test Furmark.

Temperature evaluation mode in idle mode (single operation of the system) is not so interesting, because processors and graphics cards manufacturers have long implemented a very good power-saving mechanisms. For example, reduce the CPU core voltage and frequency in the event of inaction. Therefore, the heat generation components is significantly reduced.

Our measurements are shown in the following diagram:

be quiet! Pure Base 600 Test and review: an inexpensive quiet case

Temperature Rating:

We spent a temperature test four times – with open and closed lid, with the minimum and maximum fan speed controller. Fan Controller pleased with the wide range of speeds, because the two settings have led to the difference in temperatures of 20 degrees. At minimum speed the cooling of the test system was sufficient, it is noticeably intensified at maximum speed. With regard to the effect of the open lid, there is not all clear. CPU temperature with the lid open predictably decreased because hot air is blown out quickly. But the closed lid is still preferable to a semi-graphics. Perhaps, with the lid closed card receives more airflow.

Evaluation of noise:

To measure the noise level, we used the Sound meter Voltcraft SL-400, which is located at a distance of 20 cm from the front of the housing.

As for noise, we did not receive the essential difference between a closed and an open lid. In quiet surroundings at minimum speed fan noise was barely noticeable in any position of the cover. So be quiet! Pure Base 600 in standard configuration may well be used as a quiet housing. At high speeds the noise of the fan was more than evident. But the noise still was not exactly annoying. At least in the games it is quite tolerable.

be quiet! Pure Base 600 Test and review: an inexpensive quiet case

Other measures in the review:

We measured a maximum height of CPU cooler, and the maximum length of a video card with a tape, as well as the distance between the motherboard tray and the side panel. To measure the thickness of the walls we used a micrometer. We also take into account the data published by the manufacturer. Of course, at the same time we made a certain measurement error. For this reason, we recommend that you consider the values given below for comparison purposes only, and do not take them as the ultimate truth.

The height of the CPU cooler:

The housing be quiet! Pure Base 600 is not much room for tall tower coolers. However, available 16.5cm still sufficient for most coolers on the market.

Video length:

When choosing a graphics card, you can not pay attention to its length. At least, if the video card will not occupy the area of modular HDD racks.

Space for cabling:

For cable routing space is enough. Between the motherboard tray and right-left panel of the order of 2.5 cm. Part of the space will occupy two mounting 2.5 “drives.

The thickness of the material:

Be quiet! points for be quiet! Pure Base 600 steel thickness up to 0.8 mm. At least for the side panels we have a thickness of a little less than – 0.7 mm, but for this price range, it is perfectly acceptable.

be quiet! Pure Base 600: conclusion

Of course, many users of the price of 89 euros for the body hardly seems low. But in the case of be quiet! we are used to expensive enclosures, so be quiet! Pure Base 600 can be called affordable housing manufacturer. And Midi Tower case from be quiet! still does not belong to the category of budget – in comparison with the Silent Base line is unlikely to have to make compromises. According to some aspects of the be quiet! Pure Base 600 seemed to us even more convincing.

The design of the new product be quiet! It is a typical housing Midi Tower. Compatibility with the components of a good, though not outstanding. Long video cards and power supplies fit on be quiet! Pure Base 600 without any problems. And space for cable management more than in the same Silent Base 600 . Is that on the CPU cooler has a limit, set the highest model is unlikely to succeed. The interior of the body has an elaborate structure, thanks to the removable storage racks, it provides sufficient configuration flexibility. It is possible, for example, set SVO heat exchangers. Unlike many competitors, be quiet! did not divide the body into segments of the motherboard and power supply to the drives.

For be quiet! Pure Base 600 sound level is an important criterion – still be quiet! It must live up to its name. In practice, we got really quiet body. Staffing preset two fan speed can be controlled in a fairly wide range of fans thanks to a controller with three levels of adjustment. Depending on the required cooling capacity, the noise level can be reduced to a minimum. In the middle position controller provides quite tolerable noise level. At the minimum position, the fan barely audible. Yet noise is significantly reduced due to the closed housing design and liners within soundproof. Hard drives also have vibration isolation.

Level 600 Pure Base prices compared to competitor Fractal Design chosen very wisely. The body be quiet! Model is more expensive models Define C and the Define the S . However, while it provides more possibilities (such as fan controller), and more versatile than the two mentioned range. Of course, Fractal Design also offers versatile housing the Define R5 , but they cost about 10 euros more expensive. Compared with cases Silent Base of own production, design be quiet! Pure Base 600 seems more simple and austere, but the interior – more modern. Yet buyers housing be quiet! Pure Base 600 will have to abandon the front door and separate the dust filter that is easily removed for cleaning.

be quiet! Pure Base 600 – the cheapest model be quiet !, but the records in terms of price / quality it is not intended. We have before us a great quiet housing at a price of 100 euros cheaper.

Benefits of be quiet! Pure Base 600:

  • The cheapest housing be quiet!
  • Measures to reduce noise, such as soundproofing, a removable cap on the lid and the fan controller
  • Interior with flexible configuration and removable storage racks
  • Staffing housing is equipped with two fans Pure Wings 2
  • Removable dust filter at the bottom of the housing
  • Bezotvertochnaya installing expansion cards and optical drives, hard disk vibration insulation

Disadvantages be quiet! Pure Base 600:

  • Behind you can only install a 120 mm fan
  • To install the HDD / SSD requires a screwdriver
  • Front dust filter is presented in a grid with a fine mesh to remove it for cleaning problematic
