Two years ago ASUS introduced motherboard workstation on X99 chipset, and now the manufacturer has released a model Asus X99-E-10G WS, to meet the needs of a fast connection to the Ethernet. This motherboard was shown at Computex and aroused great interest of visitors.
ASUS X99-E-10G WS uses the platform LGA 2011-v3 chipset and X99, that is, compatible with all Core i7 processors and some CPU Xeon. The motherboard supports up to eight bars DDR4-3333, totaling up to 128 GB. At a frequency of 2.400 MHz to support ECC.
The main advantage of this model is the maximum component configuration. ASUS uses two switches 64 and PLX PCI Express line, which can be divided into seven slots. For a system with four graphics cards can be configured x16 / x16 / x16 / x16. Also in the BIOS, you can set the configuration of the x16 / x8 / x8 / x8 / x8 / x8 / x8 or x16 / x16 / x8 / x8 / x8 / x8. That is, the number of available PCI Express slot will depend on the configuration of each slot.
ASUS refused SATA Express interface for SSD and uses instead U.2 port. For storage is also available M.2 slot with four PCI Express lines. In addition, the motherboard offers ten SATA connectors, which should be more than enough. ASMedia USB-3.1 controller allows you to connect up to two USB 3.1 and up to twelve USB 2.0 devices.
However, the main feature of the new items is a 10-Gbps-the Ethernet adapter Intel X550-AT2. Chip connected to the four lines of PCI Express 3.0. Its cost is $ 80, which is of course reflected in the price of the motherboard, but more on that later. Next assembly IO panel, you can see the passive cooler for X550-AT2 adapter, which consumes up to 11 watts, and therefore, can be heated. In addition, the distance between the terminals and the chip should be minimized, so ASUS chose this place. two RJ45 sockets are located next to the adapter.
All other information, including the number of internal and external connectors are on the product page on the official website of the manufacturer.
ASUS X99-E-10G WS should soon be available for sale, but the price of ASUS did not name. Variant X99-E WS without the 10-Gbps adapter costs about 440 euros, so, given the cost of the components, ASUS X99-E-10G WS can cost for a good 100 euros more expensive.
