ADATA Ultimate SU800 Review and test SSD drive

Just the other day, I happened to run into an interesting situation. The working laptop for a long time been installed SSD drive, to the response of the system and the minimum start-up time programs I used (in all operating assemblies are SSD). But suddenly it was necessary to run the system with regular HDD, which after a full backup gather dust in the bedside table without formatting and use. Frankly, honestly, I was surprised how much the system has lost in the response … Time to run and send messages the pair dragged on for a long time :).

What am I? SSD drives have become the standard for modern assemblies, but they still can not compete with the classic drives the average cost per GB. Today we got ADATA Ultimate SU800, it uses a three-dimensional memory, which in theory should make the move to the new metrics of volume, value and speed for SSD drives.

ADATA Ultimate SU800: CONTENTS OF DELIVERY

ADATA Ultimate SU800 Supplied in a compact cardboard box. Its design has an interesting background with iridescent pattern, reminiscent of a silicon wafer. The information package is also not deprived, there is a photo storage device contains the model and amount of storage, as well as a small description in several languages.

Supplied with the drive itself, paper and plastic guide rail for increasing thickness.

ADATA Ultimate SU800: DESIGN

ADATA Ultimate SU800 is made in the form factor of 2.5 inches with a thickness of 7 mm. On the front side in the continuation of vibrant packaging features a large sticker with a reference model.

On the reverse side has the technical label with all the information about a specific instance of the drive. We were hit by 256 GB version is also available, and other volume: 128/512 GB or 1 TB.

ADATA Ultimate SU800 is metal-plastic. Yes, the manufacturer applied a combination of materials. Thickness of 7 mm can be used in all laptops, and complete attachment in which case the thickness will increase to 9 mm.

A set of connectors for, without surprises, SATA 3.0 and nutrition.

To disassemble the cabinet need to “get rid” of the warranty seal and remove the retaining bolt, but that’s not all. After that will reach the bolt, which is located directly under the bonnet sticker on the front side.

Inside a small fee is set by a format reminiscent of Half-Slim SATA drive. In order to dissipate heat through the metal side of the disc thermal spacers are not provided.

On board we find the controller Silicon Motion SM2258. In the role of the buffer memory used by one chip DDR3 256 MB, its labeling Nanya DDR3L-1600 SDRAM.

To set the basic amount of flash memory used three chips from Micron 3D TLC NAND marked 6QB22 NW838.

Note that the board has available space for both flash memory and for memory. They can be used to release the drive to 512 GB, but the option seems to 1TB will have another PCB.

Once the user 238 GB of available space. The rest of the claimed amount will be used for the collection of “garbage” technologies.

On the drive page, you can find a small utility SSD ToolBox and a set of Acronis True image HD, disk migration utility. And if the second will need to jump on the SSD drive, the ToolBox offers quite a common set of service functions for the SSD drive. Among them is the ability to monitor, command execution complete cleaning or running TRIM, interesting time points are the optimization of the operating system.

For testing, we used the test stand with the following configuration.

  • The processor: Intel the Core i5 6600K;
  • Motherboard: ASUS the Ranger VIII Maximus;
  • Memory: Corsair VENGEANCE LPX CMK8GX4M2A2666C16 8GB (2X4 GB);
  • Hard drive: Transcend’s MTS600 TS256GMTS600(for the system);
  • Power supply: Corsair RM1000.

To test the following applications were chosen: PCMark, AS SSD Benchmark and CrystalDiskMark. The results can be found on the charts. To check on the linear recording capabilities used utility AIDA64 Disk Benchmark. Also on the charts it reflects the results of Transcend TS256GMTS600 form factor M.2.

ADATA Ultimate SU800: Conclusion

As shown by the test results in some sections at ADATA got to realize an interesting drive. The very first paragraph certainly be called the use of TLC 3D NAND in the current realities of its availability and distribution. It is interesting to observe that, as a company that is not a direct manufacturer of a new memory, is rolling out solutions on its basis. The second point can be called a high-speed recording and performance work in the user modes. However, the apparent breakthrough in performance on all parameters of a new type of memory we have not seen.

At the time of publication of the material, ADATA Ultimate SU800 256 GB was excellent access to the capital’s retail at an average price of 5400 rubles. In general, the cost is excellent correlation with other drives of this volume. With further development of 3D NAND, drives based on it can be an excellent choice to replace analogues on TLC-memory. Let us observe what other solutions present ADATA in this line.
